In this modern age where Gen-Z is becoming more and more powerful, there will also be some first-world problems along with this. One such problem is the issue of the internet. We are caught in the endless cycle of social media, online shopping, online marketing, etc. The increasing demand for more data and the speed with which the internet data is supplied are catching up. We are at that point where we cannot imagine our life without the internet. So, it’s evident that with increased demand comes an increase in several problems. But don’t worry; here we are to help you!

It is tough to imagine a world without the internet. There is no social media, no Netflix, and no other activity aided by the internet. Credits to modern wireless technology, Wi-Fi has made it easier to connect to high-speed internet, even in remote locations. The wireless technology connects computers, tablets, smartphones, and other devices to the internet. The signal from the radio sent from a wireless router to a nearby device translates the signal into data that the user can see and use. A radio signal is transmitted back to the router, connecting to the internet by wire or cable. Wi-Fi has become a daily companion, and the users believe that they cannot do without it. Wi-Fi has been acting as a crucial element for the availability of the internet at home or workplaces.

Nowadays, we all want an endless- or unlimited- supply of the internet. Those measly plans of a few GB per day don’t do it for us anymore. So what could solve this problem? The answer is a router! All of us are familiar with the router concept; a one-time purchase gives an unlimited supply of data for a lifetime. What could be better than that? Every router has a unique IP address and is commonly used for accessing router’s functionalities. This private IP address like 192.168.8.1 is used to configure networking equipment. If you consider the monthly prices of the internet, they are not even that costly. Here are a few trusted ones which are available.

TP-Link routers

NETGEAR routers

NOTE: All of these routers are available worldwide.

Now that we have gotten that out of our way let’s talk about another problem: slow internet speed. It often happens that we are sitting someplace and suddenly, lo and behold, there is no good internet coverage. Whether we are at the workplace, playing games at home, or watching Netflix, it doesn’t matter. So, it is to be expected that you will be frustrated thinking that even after doing this much for internet availability, why am I still not getting internet. Do not worry more, for here are some of the tricks that will hopefully be proven life-saving for you inside and outside the house!

First of all, let me clarify: it doesn’t matter if we have the best wires outside our house—eliminating low speed and Wi-Fi dead zones is primarily up to us and the tricks we use.

Wi-Fi is a technology that has come to light over the past decade, with more and more people using it every day. However, most of us have never really explored its uses. Here are some excellent ways to use Wi-Fi to improve your life today.

  • Use it as your library. You can search for books inside your house or gather all of them in one place on your computer so you won’t have to carry them around with you. You’ll also be able to see what’s coming out soon or what’s been coming out recently, making choosing something new much more accessible.
  • Create an automated restaurant list on your phone, so when you’re at a restaurant, you know with 100% certainty what dishes they serve and if they have any vegan options. This will save you from asking the staff every time and help you find the best words to order!

Advantages of Wi-Fi

  • It enhances expandability where many workers need to perform specific tasks within the same network at a particular time.
  • It increases productivity as cloud-based tools enable the workers to collaborate and access the work servers, perform tasks and share information remotely.
  • Wi-Fi facility at offices and business places increases customer satisfaction. Clients feel more valued because they think that the waiting time is shorter.
  • It provides more comfort and convenience to the users.

1. Move Your Router

You DO NOT keep the router in the closet. Period. Walls, cupboards, and even bookshelves can hinder your Wi-Fi signal. Moving the router can significantly impact your speed and how far your wireless transmissions can reach. The goal is to get your primary devices—mobiles, laptops, and so on—as close as possible to the router. You can even mount your router up a wall. If possible, it’s better to keep it away from other devices that use electromagnetic waves.

2. Ethernet Cable

Wires still exist! You don’t need a wireless connection. A wired connection to your Wi-Fi router is usually favored over a wireless one. It’s faster, stable, and can’t affect any other devices. It does have a downside, though- it limits where your devices can be. So it’s less convenient overall.

3. Change the Bandwidth

Wi-Fi signal is divided into bandwidths. Your router uses a particular bandwidth to communicate with your devices. If you have next-door neighbors living close to you who also have routers using the same bandwidth, everything can get cluttered quickly. Changing bandwidth can solve this problem. (Check the user manual for this).

4. Upgrading Router (for large houses or offices)

Routers differ in many aspects, such as prices and functions, but here, in this case, the upgrade we have to make is mostly in terms of how far your Wi-Fi is carried. If you have a large house, it’s better to have a router that can pair with “extenders” to broadcast signals to your devices, even if they are in your house’s farthest corners.

5. Wi-Fi Extender

If changing your router settings is too tricky, invest in a Wi-Fi extender. These devices plug into any spare socket (they may not be available in too old houses), connect to the wireless internet of your router, and extend it. They’re straightforward to set up and can instantly get past the Wi-Fi dead zones in your house.

6. Add a Password!

I probably don’t have to inform you of this, but you need a password on your Wi-Fi network ASAP. It’s mandatory to keep neighbors from feeding off your bandwidth, slowing you down. Make sure you use AES encryption in the password setting, the most secure and speedy security option.

7. Deleting Unused Devices

Having numerous devices taking data from the router at once can be problematic. Unplug anything you have connected to the router but don’t need. Make sure only the devices that need the internet get it.

8. Checking PC

This tip is specific for computers. If the internet connection on your PC or laptop is slow, but other devices on your network seem fine, open Task Manager and see which programs are running in the background. Specific programs are set to auto-update by default but don’t need to be.

9. Restarting Your Router

We’ve read this tip many times, but the disbelief is still there. Restarting your router sounds like a perfect solution to everything: Restart it. Yes, restarting your router can sometimes fix slow internet, but does regularly restarting your router help? The answer is no.

PS: Please keep in mind that the tricks I mentioned above here are discovered with the help of trial and error. There is no solid proof for this to be working for EVERYONE. It could sometimes be a genuine technical issue also. If you found this router guide helpful, please share it with others. Need help setting up your new router? Check out Router Login.

Effective uses of Wi-Fi

  • Smartphones can be used as wireless routers to connect the internet service to computers and laptops with the help of Wi-Fi.
  • It can connect our smartphones with electrical appliances and make them more convenient for the users. Stream videos on any TV in the house.
  • Share files and documents with nearby devices.
  • Stream music and audio to any speaker in the house.
  • Wirelessly transfer photos and videos from digital cameras.

Conclusion

Wi-Fi has come to light over the past decade as more and more people use it every day. They think that it is much more accessible and has allowed them to keep multiple tasks at their fingertips without searching for ways to do them. It has undoubtedly made a significant contribution to making the users more efficient. An increase in efficiency has further led to a decrease in their workload. Wi-Fi offers equal advantages at home and at workplaces, which has relieved the users even more. Wi-Fi has added up to the convenience, mobility, productivity, expansion, and deployment of the users worldwide. Therefore, it is undoubtedly an asset to the life of the users.
