Under agile operations, DevOps has reaped major benefits to numerous organizations. It enhances collaboration between quality assurance, operations, development, and business departments, allowing organizations to deliver new and improved capabilities to customers.

Test management has contributed a great deal to the success of DevOps. However, some may not be clear about how exactly this process fits into the overall DevOps environment. With increasing complications in software development, DevOps members will rely more on each other’s skill sets to solve problems and test management will play a huge role in maintaining the level of quality customers expect.

Builds upon DevOps Strengths

DevOps teams are good at monitoring quality and enabling frequent deployments. However, to do these tasks, they need the right test management tools. Test case management enables DevOps to meet these expectations and empowers them to achieve optimal results. According to IBM, test management helps DevOps facilitate CI and CI through leveraging data. Test data and cases can be associated with ease, the security of sensitive information is ensured and any results are analyzed. These insights will help DevOps teams progress and continuously meet user demands.

The essence of Testing Maturity

To make DevOps successful, teams must have skilled individuals that actively improve operations. Although many organizations can facilitate automation integration, it is still possible for them to have problems with test orchestration within these environments. In these situations, test management tools can come in handy to provide much-needed assistance. These systems can be leveraged by testing teams to work with DevOps. This will help ensure the quality of code changes and that the project meets the demands.

Agile Workflows Support

DevOps is built on Agile values, meaning that the solutions used in these environments must support these practices. With test management, these practices are supported with collaborative features, real-time features, and other essential features. World Quality Report 2015-16 by Capgemini states that 29% of organizations struggle with Agile testing to date. The previous year’s number was 61%. The main challenges organizations face are:

  • Keeping consistency across different channel interfaces
  • Testing integration of services across platforms
  • Testing of end-to-end workflows

Test management helps DevOps solve these issues and ensure that users are getting a positive experience by leveraging front office, cloud, and mobile solutions to help deliver seamless interactivity.

Strategic for Faster Delivery

Before Agile, testing was the final stage of the software development life cycle, which left little room for organizations to make critical changes and ensure the desired performance and functionality. This way, the defects were more likely to show up later, forcing organizations to put additional money and other resources to fix them, which ultimately slowed down the operations. QA and test management must be involved throughout the entire process to facilitate quality and ensure that the products meet quality standards set by users and stakeholders.
