Das Keyboard Model S
The Das Keyboard Model S is an older Das Keyboard version, which was first available around 2010. The Das 4 is largely based on the Model S. But while much technology is not built up to last in today’s ‘ throw away culture, ‘ the Das Model S is a prime example of technical durability.
Deutsche Technologies at its best!
The Model S series shares a number of features across each of the series’ models, as with the Das 4 Keyboard series. Those rising characteristics include:
- Cherry MX Switches With Gold Contacts (Brown on the Pro And Ultimate, Blue on the Pro For Mac)
- Two Port USB Hub
- Extra Long Cable – 2 meter (6.6 feet)
- Dedicated Media Controls
- 104 Key Layout
- Glossy Black Upper Enclosure
Das Keyboard Model S Ultimate
The Das Keyboard Model S Ultimate is another blank product, much like the Keyboard 4 Pro series is named after it. The keyboards are often ‘ best in class ‘ compared to the famous IBM Model M, and the blank keycap design allegedly helps you type more quickly. Maybe it’s because it eliminates the sense of doubt we put on ourselves when looking at the board for confirmation that our stance is correct.
The best typists are not looking at the keyboard, they are ‘ trusting ‘ to what they see on the screen. So maybe the design is to encourage people to have ‘ faith ‘ and thus become more productive. Or maybe it’s a fad. However, there seems to be a general consensus that there is something to it! Reserved between us for the bad-ass gamers and typists.
The Model S Ultimate keyboard comes with Brown Cherry MX Mechanical Switches – soft and tactile, with gold contacts for an unbeatable keystroke output, in addition to the defining blank keypad style. It also comes with a 2 port USB 2.0 Hub, or one of the ports can be used as a PS2 port. You get full n-key rollover with the PS2 adapter, or with USB, 6-key rollover for anti-ghosting.
Das Keyboard Model S Professional
The nosy buttons and big clunky look come with its far superior and rewarding typing experience. It’s very much like using the Cherry MX Brown Switches ‘ old fashioned IBM keyboard with its tactile buttons and heavy typing noise. But with its many old school features comes a keyboard that is a real pleasure to use and has some very modern features such as media-control keys and a dual USB port and anti-ghosting.
Yes, architecture and functionality are limited in all respects but the Das S Professional is like a fine wine. Due to the action of the buttons and the fact that every key is like a lovely comfy armchair for your fingertips, a typing connoisseur would love this keyboard.
Das Model S Professional For Mac
The Das Model S Professional For Mac is similar in many ways to the Model S Pro but with a number of features that stand out:
- Designed Specifically For Mac
- Cherry MX Blue – Clicky Switches (great for typists)
- 5 Key roll-over
- USB Hub – 1.1 and 2.0 compatible (No PS2 adapter)
As with the Model S Pro, the keys for the f and j buttons are laser engraved with bumps. The keys for those long on-screen sessions are extremely soft, comfortable and great.
