But if you are buying tote bags online then you need to know different materials from which these bags are made and are available in the market. Different materials have their own features with each come with their own pros and cons. Let us check out different and popular materials that are used for making tote bags

Polypropylene

This kind of material is highly water-resistant, which is made by melting plastic and then combined together to make sheets which are then formed into a fabric

The advantages of using this kind of material in a tote bag are, they are highly durable, flexible, lightweight and moisture resistant which makes them highly durable and are easy to clean.

But with these advantages, these bags also have few flaws, like they are quite harmful to the environment since they are non-biodegradable, highly inflammable and require regular washing and cleaning. Also, these bags made from polypropylene can only be washed by hand.

Cotton

This is a natural fibre that is quite sustainable in nature, which means they are nature friendly and are safe to grow for the environment. Bags made from this material are quite durable which means they have a long life and can be washed in the washing machine.

These bags are bio-degradable and are comfortable and soft since they are made natural resources and do not use any kind of plastic. But these bags can become quite heavy and bulky. They also require high Maintenance, which means regular washing, but don’t be amazed if washing shrinks its size. They can also wear off with regular use.

Polyester

Polyester is a synthetic fibre that is mixed with cotton, to make the bag more silky and soft. It also makes the bag slippery. These bags need to be hand-washed only, wiping with a simple wet cloth will also do the work.

These bags are wrinkle-resistant and can be easily stored. But the major flaw of using this bag is that it’s highly inflammable and posses a hazard for the environment.

Canvas

Canvas material has been used for many years and is now working as a replacement for cotton, which is layered with heavy fabric so that it can handle rough usage.

The perks of Canvas tote bag are that it can be washed easily in the machine and stretches easily which makes them highly durable. But these bags tend to become heavy to carry and can get dirt frequently, thus this requires regular washing. These bags tend to be quite expensive when it comes to price.

Nylon

Nylon is used in making so many things kept in your wardrobe, like a stocking you have been pairing with your favourite dress. These are used for making a tote bag as well!

This material is quite durable and compacts quite easily since these are light in weight, flexible in taking shape thus making them a good choice when it comes to using them for gym or friends outing. But these bags are hazardous for the mother earth. These bags are prone to fading if regularly washed or exposed to the sun for long.

Jute

Like cotton, these bags are also natural fibre, made entirely with plants. Bags made from these golden fibres are quite affordable and durable. These bags are best used for a nice picnic in the park or while relaxing on the beach.

A Jute bag comes with grainy textures that are not comfortable and soft to touch. These bags are not moisture resistant as well.

Polyurethane

This material is basically used for making faux leather and spandex. Bags made from these materials can easily withstand longer exposure to heat and moisture which ensures durability.
