Maintain your interiors

When a storm hits there are high chances that it can damage the interiors of your house. The furniture, balconies, windows of the house are vulnerable to damage due to high wind or hail storms. Whenever it feels, a storm is approaching close the balcony doors and windows to prevent the harsh entry of the dust particles to retain the quality of the furniture.  Most importantly, pay attention to yourroof damage. Get it inspected regularly, call a professional to fix broken or damaged shingles if there are any. Consider re-fixing with a quality material that withstands harsh weather. A well-furnished roof does not allow water and sunlight to enter in.

Secure your windows and doors

Shut your doors and windows to not let the wind and dust particles in. It will protect your home interiors and will not create possible damageable side effects.

Clean gutters and drainages

The gutter can quickly accumulate fallen leaves and external dirt during heavy storms. This creates blockages in which the water overflows in the eaves. In order to avoid that, get your gutter cleaned regularly. Get in touch with professionals, explain your problem and clear your leaves from the gutter. Also, maintain the functioning of your drainage system as it eliminates the surface water and prevents it from creating the mess. Lastly, do not forget downspouts for proper channeling of water away from the home’s foundation.

Trim trees and shrubs

Storms are equally hazardous to the trees as well because they can be fallen by a strong hail or a wind which can damage not only your roof but the property as well. In such cases when there is a possibility of the storm, cut down all the trees, shrubs, weak trees that can potentially damage your property. It could be painful, but ultimately a safer step to protect your house. If it seems uncomfortable then contact a qualified absorbent who interprets your problem nicely and comes up with an effective solution.

Verify insurance coverage

Storms are unexpected and so are their damages. It is necessary to have an emergency escape plan ready under such circumstances. The most important thing is to have insurance and ensure that your policy covers all types of hazards such as floods, landslides, hailstorms, cyclones, and damages caused due to heavy rains. Apart from this, you also should be self-dependent and create your emergency preparedness kit as well to save yourself and your family from such calamities.

Prepare and emergency kit

Prepare an emergency kit and keep it where it is easily accessible at any time of the calamity. The emergency items could include equipment that are useful during harmful times, medications, and first-aid kits.
