Whether it is electrical wiring, electrical appliance installation, maintenance, or testing, one should use proper safety equipment. It ensures safety and allows you to manage electrical appliances or tools effectively. It is essential to use a flat cord power strip to plug in multiple ports instead of using a three-pointer and plugging in multiple devices in one socket. Before you take part in any work of electrical wiring at your home, ensure to protect yourself with safe electrical equipment and accessories, such as:

  1. Insulated Gloves

Every task related to home wiring requires the use of hands. And most of the time, the work of home wiring requires operating with live wires. Hence, insulated gloves are significant safety equipment that you must have to protect yourself from electrical hazards. It is always safe to keep two pairs of insulated gloves. As the rubber doesn’t conduct electricity, the gloves make for a safety accessory. One can also look for cut-resistant leather gloves that provide safety and protection to the skin from mechanical tears. While performing home wiring tasks during winters, use a good pair of cotton gloves to keep your hands warm.

  1. Protective Glasses

Protective glasses are an essential accessory to use when working with electrical wiring. Instead, it’s a necessity and electrical safety accessory. The eyes are the most sensitive organ of the body and require sufficient care and protection. Often, foreign particles such as debris, drywall dust, and electrical sparks cause significant damage to the eyes. The good thing about protective glasses is that it protects a larger area of the face surrounding the eyes. If you are bothered about whether it suits your face or not, there is also a premium glasses option available that looks sleek and stylish.

  1. Earplugs and Earmuffs

Drilling can result in loud, excessive noise, which can damage the ears and lead to hearing loss. The protective headgear, or earmuffs, can prevent hearing loss. Earmuffs are similar to headphones, and it covers the entire ear perfectly. As home wiring consumes a lot of time, it is recommendable to protect the ears with earmuffs to avoid loud noise. Earmuffs are suitable for winters, as, in the summer season, they can collect humidity and make the person feel uncomfortable. It is where earplugs come in. One of the best advantages of earplugs is that they offer enough protection to the ear’s canal. Earplugs are also lightweight and comfortable to wear. Whenever you choose ear protection equipment, always remember to consider its dB rating that specifies noise reduction volume. You can opt for the perfect ear safety accessory based on the complication of electrical home wiring.

  1. Wire stripper

In-home wiring tasks, it is crucial to have a wire stripper to take off the insulation coating. The tool is beneficial to take out the ends of wires to connect them with different terminals. The wire stripper has a sharp stripping notch that removes the insulation coating without damaging the conductor. There are two different types of wire strippers- automatic and manual. Manual strippers are mostly used by professionals who are skillful enough in managing electrical wires. If you are a beginner in electrical wiring, you can then opt for the automatic stripper. Even though the wire strippers are a specific type of wire, they can quickly strip massive cables.

  1. Voltage detector

Even though it is mandatory to switch the power off before performing any electrical wiring task, it is advisable to check whether the wire is live using a voltage detector. There are two different types of voltage detectors used for electrical wiring- receptacles testers and non-contact detectors. Non-contact detectors are highly secure and reliable in comparison to receptacle testers. It is because it can spot a live wire without any contact with electrical wires. Another good part of the non-contact detector is that they are affordable and reliable. On the contrary, receptacle testers may sometimes show falsely negative even when the wire is live.
