Garlic has been an essential ingredient in every kitchen from ancient time. Since that time, it has been highly valued for its numerous health benefitting properties, which are still followed in many cultures today. 

The ancient people have been using it as a bug repellent, medieval Europe against the plague. The culture, even in North Africa, like Egyptians, used to place garlic around the dead. 

Garlic is the ingredient that is commonly used for conditions related to the heart or cardiovascular and blood system. It contains many chemical compounds that can cure conditions like high blood pressure, high levels of cholesterol in blood, skin conditions, various infections, and a variety of other ailments.

Garlic and its preparations have been using as agents of preventing and treating cardiovascular diseases since ancient times. It contains several chemical compounds like Diall Trisulphide, Allicin etc., which have been showing to reduce bad cholesterol, which leads to Atherosclerosis or hardening of blood vessels. 

Garlic is also perfect for people who are bearing the sufferings of hypertension and high blood pressure. A study was done on 23 patients, all with high cholesterol and 13 of them had high blood pressure. There were two groups between the patients.

The first group was the High Cholesterol Normotensive Group which had normal blood pressure, and the other group was of high cholesterol Hypertensive Group that had high blood pressure. 

The intake of garlic extracts supplements for four months. You can check after the period for taking garlic. Your kidney and blood lipids are working efficiently. In addition, at the end of four months, the researchers could make the conclusions that the garlic extracts supplementation;

  • It enhanced the blood lipid profile,
  • strengthens blood antioxidant potential
  • lessens in systolic and diastolic BP
  • Garlic also decreases oxidative free radical damage in the body, demonstrating reduced oxidative levels in the body

In other words, garlic extract supplementation reduces high cholesterol levels and high blood pressure levels in patients with hypertension.

Good for healthy gut

Most of you may know that Gut contains billions of good bacteria that help in digestion. They are essential for a healthy gut. Suppose you do not take a proper diet or take a particular medication like antibiotics, the levels of these good bacteria in our gut decrease. It results in poor digestion, bloating, and diarrhoea.

Certain foods help in the growth of these good bacteria in our Gut. One can divide these foods into two types: prebiotics and probiotics. Garlic is a perfect example of prebiotic. 

Prebiotics are compounds that induce the growth of beneficial microorganisms like bacteria, fungi in our Gut. Garlic is high in insulin, which is naturally filled inside it.  A type of non-digestible carbohydrate or functional fibre feeds the good bacteria in your digestive system. 

It acts as a fuel for the bacteria to act efficiently in their job. It makes your gut function better in a proper way? As per the studies in food science and human wellness, Garlic is an ingredient that promotes the growth of friendly bacteria in the Gut. It also prevents the disease by promoting their activity.

Good for brain health

Garlic is good for brain health. There are several stresses, including environmental stress, including the ageing process, smoking, pollution, brain injuries like traumas and toxics consumptions etc. Garlic has ported antioxidants and anti-inflammatory property, so it promotes brain health. 

With the combined effects of reduced cholesterol and blood pressure and having significant antioxidants properties, garlic is effective against Neurodegenerative diseases like Alzheimer’s and Dementia. 

Anti-biotic properties

Diall sulphide, a compound in garlic, has potent antibiotic properties. According to a study published in the journal of antimicrobial chemotherapy, Allicin, one of the active principles of freshly crushed garlic homogenates, has a multi-variety of microbial activities. 

Allicin is a pure form to exhibit antibacterial activity against Gram-negative and gram-positive bacteria in a predefined form. It also demonstrated anti-biotic property against multidrug-resistant strains.

Garlic also contains another chemical known as Ajoene, which helps fight fungal infection like ringworm, Jocks Itch, and athlete’s foot.     

Good blood purifier

Your blood is responsible for a lot of things. It transports oxygen, sugar, hormones, fats and other cells to your immune system. It cleanses your body system and further keeps it moving. We tend to store toxins inside our body with certain types of sources. One can vary these sources from food, pollution and stress.

The detoxification process improves the system; it helps in regulating healthy modifications and much more things.
