Do you want to quit your job and don’t know how to do it? Quitting a job is a decision that cannot be taken lightly, it cannot be the first option in the face of minimal difficulty. It should be based on an in-depth analysis of the current situation and your future job, but if you have already made the decision, you should write a letter of resignation.
A letter of resignation is a formal document that announces to the company the end of your work, expresses your personality, your level of professionalism, thanks you for your time there, and leaves the doors open in case new job opportunities are created. I work in that company.
Ideally, before submitting your resignation letter to Human Resources, speak with your immediate boss and explain your reasons for changing jobs, thank you for the opportunity and what you learned during your time at the company. Only then should you prepare your letter of resignation and submit it.
A resignation letter must be clear, concise and cordial, likewise, it must have these three parts:
The resignation letter must begin with the information of the company and to whom it is addressed, as well as include proof of your resignation, the position you are leaving vacant and how long you have been holding it. If you wish, you can optionally add the reasons for your resignation, although the latter is not necessary.
Following the paragraph in which you present your resignation, it is appropriate to add a brief thank you to your employer, highlighting the positive aspects of your work experience in the company and how it contributed to your professional development.
Communicate until what date you will fulfill your duties and your willingness to prevent your departure from harming the company. If possible, however, don’t make promises you can’t keep. Finally, add your details and your signature.
Although you have the right to terminate your employment relationship at any time, you must take into account that there is a notice period (period between the date of resignation and the date of effective departure of the worker), which generally consists of up to 30 days.
Finally, it is preferable that you keep a copy of your resignation letter for yourself with the signature of the person to whom you are giving the document.
I hereby inform you of my resignation from the position of [your position] that I have held since the day [beginning of your contract] in this organization. This decision responds to strictly personal reasons.
I take this opportunity to express the appreciation I had in working with you during my time in the company and thank you for the opportunity you gave me and the trust you have placed.
Likewise, I would appreciate it if you consider the [last day of work] as the date that I cease my work in the company. During my final weeks of employment, I will remain available to ease the transition.
Without another particular, I cordially say goodbye,
It is not the same to leave work because you have found something better to do because you simply can’t stand your boss. And for this there are also different resignation letters:
If you can’t take it anymore or if you simply have to start your new job the day after tomorrow, you can send a short resignation letter explaining that in a few days you will no longer be part of the team.
Example:
Dear manager)
Please accept my statement as notification that I am resigning from my job as of tomorrow, day X. My apologies for not being able to give more time. However, the circumstances I find myself in make me resign immediately.
Thank you for the support received during all this time.
Sincerely
Alicia
This letter is ideal when you want to leave the company, but do not give reasons for it. A simple and direct letter of resignation.
Example:
Dear X
Please accept this letter as official notification that I am resigning from my job at (place) with the position of (job you hold) within two weeks of receipt of this document.
Thank you for the constant support and job growth opportunities you have given me in recent years. Both you and the rest of the team have motivated me and helped me become a great professional.
If I can in any way help my resignation cause as little inconvenience to the company, please let me know.
Sincerely
Alicia
You don’t always have to give it, but depending on the conditions it doesn’t hurt to do so. There are many reasons that can hide behind a resignation, such as:
It is important that in this type of letter you make the reason clear in a natural way. no holds barred
Example:
My communication has the objective of informing that in a period of 15 days I will leave my job at X. I have enjoyed a lot during these years, but I must stay at home to attend to someone who needs me more than ever and I must resign my position of work.
My last day will be February 2, 2023. I appreciate all the trust placed in me and the support you have given me during all these years.
For my part, I will do my best to cause minimal inconvenience during the transition. Please contact me to see what I can do to help.
Thank you once again for allowing you to leave part of your company and thank you very much for your understanding.
Sincerely:
Alicia
